For the Love of Books

My Mum has come to stay from the UK and always brings books with her for my children. Some to read to them and some for them to read themselves. She tries to introduce them to new authors. We got talking about why and how a book catches a child's interest. We decided that a simple idea often works, also children love naughtiness. This time she brought the Everywhere Bear by Julia Donaldson (a very favourite author of ours), with beautiful illustrations by Rebecca Cobb. It's such a simple idea of a classroom Bear being taken home each weekend by a different child. One particular weekend he falls out of a child's bag, gets lost and has his own adventure. Eventually he is found and taken back to his classroom.

While reading this book I could immediately see many possible teaching and learning opportunities for lower primary aged children. I am pretty sure that the Bear entered the liminal space as he went beyond the classroom and school!!

A lovely book that examines the relationship between teachers and their students - I wish I had thought of this idea!!
