A favourite part of the day in my household is story time before bed. This has been our routine for the past 8 years. I recently read an article in the Guardian newspaper written by the well known columnist Lucy Mangan. In it she explained that increasing numbers of children today have never been read to before starting school. She suggested some books to get them and keep them hooked.

The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

The Legend of Captain Crow's Teeth by Eoin Colfer

The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey

The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

Another Guardian article that proves interesting reading is about the benefit to children of a story before bed.
